Warning: Correspondence misusing the SRA number of Usmaan Amin

Member of the public reporting misuse by 'Nim Law Ltd' of the SRA number of Usmaan Amin.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a member of the public engaged a company called 'Nim Law Ltd' to assist in a dispute and requested the name of the person dealing with his matter. From messages seen by the SRA, they were provided with the name 'Amin Usmaan Mansoury' and the SRA number of a genuine solicitor with a similar name (see below for details of genuine solicitor).

The SRA does not authorise and regulate any genuine solicitor called 'Amin Usmaan Mansoury', nor a genuine law firm called 'Nim Law Ltd'.

Any business or transaction through 'Nim Law Ltd' or 'Amin Usmaan Mansoury' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA (but see below).

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Usmaan Amin, whose SRA number is 599816. The genuine Usmaan Amin has confirmed that he has no connection to the correspondence referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
