Correspondence has been sent misusing the name and details of Rashid & Co Solicitors Ltd and Imran Rashid.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a member of the public has received various correspondence purporting to be 'Rashid Imran' from the genuine law firm (see below).

The SRA has seen emails sent from 'imran.rashid@rashidandco.uk' misusing the name and SRA number of a genuine solicitor (see below) in relation to the recovery of lost crypto funds.

A purported contract was sent misusing the name and details of a genuine law firm (see below) in relation to the recovery of crypto funds, detailing a payable fee of '5%'. The bogus contract has a bogus logo for the genuine law firm (see below), and the signature purports that 'Rashid Imran' misusing the SRA number of 339326 (see below) is a 'Managing Partner' for the genuine law firm (see below)

The WhatsApp messages seen by the SRA were sent by 'Rashid Imran' from the telephone number '+44 7441 442466' inviting the recipient to make payment for the transfer of the recovered funds.

A bogus website is operating at 'https://rashidandcom.uk/expertise/business-crime-defence' misusing the details of a genuine law firm (see below).

The SRA does not authorise or regulate an individual named 'Rashid Imran'.

Any business or transaction through the above email address, telephone number or website is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Rashid & Co Solicitors Ltd (SRA ID number 620616) whose address is 401-401a Witton Road, Witton, Birmingham B6 6SP. Their telephone number is 01213560078 and the email domain of the genuine firm is '@rashidandco.com'. The genuine firms website is www.rashidandco.com.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor named Imran Rashid (SRA ID 339326) who is not a Managing Partner at the genuine firm Rashid & Co Solicitors Ltd.

The SRA also authorises and regulates genuine solicitors Imran Rashid (SRA number 516495) and Imran Rashid (SRA number 523405).

The genuine firm and the genuine solicitors have confirmed they have no connection to the correspondence, email address and website referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
