Email misusing the name of Hill Dickinson LLP and Alexandra Maleedy in relation to supposed settlement agreement documents.

What is the scam?

An email has been sent from an individual purporting to be 'Alexandra Maleedy', a Senior Associate at Hill Dickinson LLP in relation to supposed settlement agreement documents.

The emails have been sent from the following email address 'alexandra.maleedy@hilldickinsson.com'. The sender used an altered version of the firm's email address, by inserting an extra 's' within the domain (see below).  

Any business or transaction through the email addresses above are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a firm of solicitors called Hill Dickinson LLP (SRA ID 424853). The head office is located at No. 1 St. Paul's Square, Liverpool, L3 9SJ. The email domain used by the firm is @hilldickinson.com.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Alexandra Maleedy (SRA ID 609743), who is an Associate at Hill Dickinson LLP.

Hill Dickinson LLP and Alexandra Maleedy have confirmed that they do not have any connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
