Emails have been sent which misuse the name and details of Norton Peskett and Paul Gregory in relation to transferring funds for a property transaction.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent to clients of a genuine firm in relation to transferring funds for a property transaction. The emails misuse the name and details of a genuine firm (see genuine details below) and the name and email address of a Partner of the genuine firm (see below).
The emails replicate the genuine firm’s email footer with the genuine address of the firm's branch office and provide false contact details, including a website of 'www.nortonpesketts.co.uk', telephone numbers of '01502 763702' and '01502 735700' and an email address of 'p-gregory@nortonpesketts.co.uk' (with an erroneous spelling of "Norton Peskett" in the domain name, see below for contact details of the genuine firm and of Paul Gregory).
Any business or transaction through the above contact details is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors Norton Peskett (SRA ID 58859). The genuine firm uses the email domain @nortonpeskett.co.uk and the genuine firm's website is www.nortonpeskett.co.uk. Its contact number is 01502 533000 and fax number is 01502 533001.
The branch office (SRA ID 58860) address is Exchange Square, Beccles, NR34 9HP.
Paul Gregory is a Partner at Norton Peskett. The Partner uses the email address p-gregory@nortonpeskett.co.uk.
The genuine firm of solicitors Norton Peskett and Paul Gregory have confirmed that they do not have any connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
