Warning: Emails misusing the name and details of Wealth Recovery Solicitors Limited

Emails have been sent misusing the name of Wealth Recovery Solicitors Limited in relation to cryptocurrency security and asset recovery.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen several emails sent to a member of the public purporting to from Wealth Recovery Solicitors Limited (see genuine details of the firm below). The content of the emails is regarding the supposed recovery of cryptocurrency security and assets.

The emails misuse several details of the genuine firm of solicitors (see below), including their company and SRA numbers and providing links to the genuine firm's website.

The emails were sent using the email addresses of:

  • An individual claiming to be called 'Steve Parker' purporting to be a cyber-crime investigator using the email of 'jinvestigator@gmail.com' and another email of 'steve.federalsolicitor@gmail.com'.
  • An Individual claiming to be called 'Eva Bakker' using an email of 'eva.bakker@recofina.co'
  • An individual claiming to be called 'Kevin Bush' purporting to be a cyber-crime investigator and using an email of 'bill.smith.gci@gmail.com'
  • An Individual claiming to be called 'Michael Mahone' purporting to be an accounts manager from UNC Hospital in the U.S. and using an email address of 'Michaelmahone827@gmail.com'. This email also lists a phone number of 984-974-2741 and a fax number of (984) 974-8673

The SRA has also seen a document purporting to be issued by a genuine solicitor called 'Nic Roe' (see below) providing a supposed 'formal guarantee' for a transaction. The document was sent from an individual misusing the name of the genuine solicitor The email attaching the document was sent from the email address 'nicroe9@gmail.com' and also refers to an individual named 'Donnie Powell' which it claims is the 'appointed agent' in relation to the matter There have also been 

The SRA has also been informed that further emails purporting to be from Nic Rowe have been sent to members of the public claiming to be able to assist in the recovery of crypto currency and that an individual claiming to be called 'Eva Williams' has also contacted a member of the public purporting to be a senior recovery specialist from the genuine firm.

Any business or transactions through any of the above email addresses, phone and fax numbers are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorise and regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called Wealth Recovery Solicitors Limited, whose SRA number is 8000728 and Company number is 11325165. The genuine firm's head office address is Floor 6, 3 Hardman Street, Manchester, M3 3HF and the contact email for the firm is 'info@wealthrecovery.co.uk'.

The SRA also authorise and regulate a genuine solicitor named Nicolas Roe, who is employed at the genuine firm.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
