Warning: Email misusing the name of the Solicitors Regulation Authority

11 February 2026

An email has been sent misusing the name of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in relation to an online invitation.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that an email invitation has been sent to a genuine firm of solicitors purporting that 'all regulated law firms need to be prepared for an inspection by the Solicitors Regulation Authority'. The email seen by the SRA invites the recipient to book their 'Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training', providing a link to an external website to do this.

The bogus email misuses the name and logo of the Solicitors Regulation Authority and also includes a 'Secured Document #REF: 00059749016SRAUK' for a link to the '2026 SRA Guide'.

The SRA has no connection  to the invitation, CPD or reference number in the bogus email described above.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA's head office address is The Cube, 199 Wharfside Street, Birmingham, B1 1RN and its company number is 12608059. The SRA’s website is www.sra.org.uk.

We have no connection to the email mentioned above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
