Warning: WhatsApp messages misusing the name of Locksley Law (trading as RH Law Limited)

WhatsApp messages have been sent misusing the trading name of a genuine firm of solicitors in relation to PCP claims.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen a WhatsApp message sent to a member of the public purporting to be from 'Damion' of 'Locksley Law' which is the trading name of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The WhatsApp message seen by the SRA was sent from '+447761224849' and has a WhatsApp profile for 'PCP Claims Group' which quotes the address '2A Egerton Cres, Withington, Manchester, M20 4PN'. The message advises the recipient that they are being contacted to complete an ongoing PCP claim and asks for a suitable time to speak to the recipient.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a firm named 'PCP Claims Group'.

Any business or transaction through the number '+447761224849' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called RH Law Limited trading as Locksley Law Solicitors (SRA number 659355) whose address is 2A Egerton Crescent, Withington, Manchester, M20 4PN.

The genuine firm of RH Law Limited has confirmed it has no connection with the WhatsApp message referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
