Telephone calls have been made to members of the public claiming to be from KP Law Limited (trading as KP Law) in relation to a Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) claim.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been advised that telephone calls have been made to members of the public purporting to be from KP Law Limited (trading as KP Law) in relation to a Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) claim. The recipients are encouraged to complete a form in order to receive the cheque payment.
The telephone calls were made from the numbers listed below:
- 0161 526 8802
- 0330 341 3047
- 0141 846 0364
- 0161 841 2841
- 07418 315967
- 0151 375 9839
Any business or transaction through the above telephone numbers is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called KP Law Limited (trading as KP Law) (SRA ID 661050). Its main outbound Head Office telephone number is 020 8057 7480.
The genuine firm of KP Law Limited (trading as KP Law) has confirmed that they do not have any connection to the telephone calls described in the alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
