Telephone calls from 'Samad Abdul' falsely claiming to be connected to Helen Smith Immigration Limited
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that telephone calls have been made to a member of the public from 'Samad Abdul', to assist with a visa application and requesting a payment of £5000.
We are informed that the person using the name 'Samad Abdul' is based in Dubai, falsely claimed to be a solicitor connected to a genuine firm of solicitors (see below) and used the telephone number 07877-190192.
The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor named 'Samad Abdul'.
Any business or transaction through the above telephone number is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Helen Smith Immigration Limited (SRA ID 666312). Their head office is located at 14 Commercial Way, Woking, GU21 6ET. The genuine firm uses the email domain @helensmithimmigration.co.uk, the telephone number 07823 614 300 and web address www.helensmithimmigration.co.uk.
Helen Smith Immigration Limited have confirmed that they do not employ anyone by the name 'Samad Abdul' and they do not have any genuine connection to the above communications.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
