Warning: Website misusing the name and details of Daniel Rhys Allen-Randles

A profile has been set up on the website 'www.fiverr.com' misusing the name and details of a genuine solicitor and firm purporting to offer legal services.

What is the scam?

The SRA have been informed of a profile on the freelance services marketplace Fiverr with the name 'Daniel Rhys' and 'Daniel Rhys Allen'. This profile purports to be for an individual who is offering legal services and suggests that the individual is regulated by the SRA. 'Daniel Rhys' also quoted the SRA number 824945 and stated that he works for 'JMW Solicitors LLP' when contacted through the Fiverr messaging service.

Any business or transactions through the profile 'Daniel Rhys' or 'Daniel Rhys Allen' on the website Fiverr is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Daniel Rhys Allen-Randles, whose SRA number is 824945. The genuine solicitor is employed at the firm of solicitors JMW Solicitors LLP as an Assistant.

The firm have confirmed that the genuine solicitor has no connection to the website or profile referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
