Warning: Emails misusing the name of Jackson Lees Group Ltd

Emails have been sent falsely claiming to be from Emma Clark of Jackson Lees Group Ltd.

What is the scam?

The SRA have seen emails that were sent to a member of the public purporting to be from a genuine firm of solicitors that is authorised and regulated by the SRA. They also misuse the name of a genuine employee who works at the firm (see below).

The emails seen requested that the recipient transfer deposit funds for a residential conveyancing matter into a bank account that is unconnected with the genuine firm of solicitors. The emails seen by the SRA have been sent from the following email addresses 'eclark@jacksonles.co.uk' and 'eclark@jacksonslees.co.uk'.

The emails misuse the name of an Emma Clark to sign-off the email. The email sign-off also misuses the genuine head office address of Jackson Lees Group Ltd, the genuine contact number for the firm and the genuine website for the firm (see below), as well as a genuine email address of a previous employee of the firm 'SWilliams@jacksonlees.co.uk'.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Jackson Lees Group Ltd, whose SRA ID is 567726. The firms head office address is 3rd Floor, Walker House, Exchange Flags, Liverpool, Merseyside, L2 3YL, England. The firms genuine email domain is @jacksonlees.co.uk and the contact number for the firm's head office in Liverpool is 01512 821 700.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor named Emma Clark; however, Jackson Lees Group Ltd have confirmed that there is a genuine Emma Clark (Conveyancer) who is employed by Jackson Lees Group Ltd. The genuine firm have also confirmed that the email address 'SWilliams@jacksonlees.co.uk' was a genuine email address for an individual who was previously employed by the firm.

The genuine firm of solicitors Jackson Lees Group Ltd has confirmed that neither it nor Emma Clark have any genuine connection to the above emails.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
