You will need to create a mySRA account if you don't already have one. Find out how to do this.

Background checks before applying for admission 

Before you apply for admission, you must have completed your background screening. This is carried out for us by Atlantic Data and costs £34. Find out how to apply for screening.

There is also an option to complete an early character and suitability assessment before admission if you have any concerns about suitability issues.

Qualified lawyers with an SQE2 assessment exemption

If you have had an SQE2 exemption, you must demonstrate your English or Welsh language competence before applying for admission. Find out what evidence you will need.

Once you have your screening results, you can apply for admission in your mySRA account. Please make sure you choose the correct route at the start.

Disclosing a suitability issue

When applying to be admitted as a solicitor, you must disclose any issues covered by our Assessment of Character and Suitability Rules. This includes matters identified in your background screening.

Your first practising certificate

If you carry out reserved legal activities, you will need a practising certificate. You can apply for your first practising certificate once you have chosen your admission date.

Fee

The admission fee is £100. You will need to pay by credit or debit card before submitting your application. 

There is a separate fee for your practising certificate.

We aim to admit you within 30 days unless there is a character and suitability issue.
