An email has been sent misusing the name Carrie Elizabeth Crown and the name and details of Owen White & Catlin LLP in relation to a film equity investment agreement.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen an email sent to a film production company which misuses the name of a genuine solicitor (see below). The email was sent from the email address 'ukinfo.carrieelizabeth@gmail.com'.

The email included an attachment purporting to be a 'Pre-action Letter of Claim' relating to an alleged film investment dispute. The letter misuses the name and details of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below), including its address, and also includes the telephone number '+44 7476 632453'.

Any business or transaction through the individual or email address mentioned is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Owen White & Catlin LLP (SRA number 499271).

Their head office address Gavel House, 90-92 High Street, Feltham, TW13 4ES. Its genuine telephone number is 0208 890 2836 and the email domain used by the firm at its head office and throughout its branch offices is @owc.co.uk.

The genuine firm has a branch office (SRA number 511808) located at 74 Church Road, Ashford, TW15 2TP. Its genuine telephone number is 01784 254188.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Carrie Elizabeth Crown, whose SRA number is 373271. Carrie Elizabeth Crown is a Solicitor at the genuine firm Owen White & Catlin LLP.

The genuine firm Owen White & Catlin LLP and the genuine solicitor Carrie Elizabeth Crown have confirmed they have no connection to the email referred to in the alert above.
