Warning: Email purporting to be from 'TLW Legal' misusing the genuine details of TLW Solicitors Limited (trading as TLW Solicitors)

An email has been sent from an individual purporting to be 'Olivia Davis' from the firm 'TLW Legal'. The email misuses the address of a genuine law firm (see details below).

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that correspondence has been sent by email from 'Olivia Davis' claiming to be from 'TLW Legal' using the email address of 'oliviadavis@tlwlegal.com'. The correspondence relates to supposed recovery of crypto currency funds.

The bogus email seen by the SRA confirms 'receipt of documentation submitted to TLW Legal' and that the process for 'recovery of funds' has started.

The bogus email informs the recipient the amount to be recovered is '$35,507' and a commission of '5%' is payable upon successful 'recovery and transfer of funds'.

The signature of the bogus email states 'Olivia Davis' is a 'recovery solicitor' at 'TLW Legal', misusing the address of a genuine law firm (see details below) and includes:

  • a WhatsApp telephone number '+372 5816 5952'
  • a contact telephone number '+46 72 011 35 07'
  • an email address 'oliviadavis@tlwlegal.com'
  • a 'super admin' email address 'info@tlwlegal.com'
  • a website 'https://tlwlegal.com/Our-Team.php'

The SRA does not authorise or regulate an individual with the name 'Olivia Davis' or a firm with the name 'TLW Legal'.

Any business or transactions through the correspondence, contact details and website described above is not undertaken by a firm of individual authorised or regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called TLW Solicitors Limited (trading as TLW Solicitors) whose address is Third Floor, CAI Building, Coble Dene, North Shields, NE29 6DE. Their telephone number is 0191 293 1500. The firm’s genuine email domain ends with @tlwsolicitors.co.uk and its website address is www.tlwsolicitors.co.uk.

TLW Solicitors Limited (trading as TLW solicitors) has confirmed that it does not have any connection with the correspondence referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
