A fraudulent letter has been sent purporting to be from ‘Andrew Chambers' of ‘Andrew Chambers LLP’ regarding an unclaimed Payable on Death account.
What is the scam?
A letter has been sent purporting to be sent from 'Andrew Chambers' of 'Andrew Chambers LLP' regarding an 'unclaimed Payable on Death account' with a sum of 'nine million two hundred and fifty-five thousand dollars'.
The firm names 'Andrew Chambers LLP' and 'Andrew Chambers Solicitors LLP' are used interchangeably throughout the letter.
The letter provides an office address of 25 Old Broad St, EC2N 1HN and requests contact via the following email addresses: info@andrewchambersolicitorsllp.com and andrewchambersolicitorsllp@zohomail.eu
The telephone number +44 287 114 0002 and website address www.andrewchambersolicitorsllp.com is also provided. The firm's website purports to present Andrew Chamber, Lewis Farrell and Jude Ryan as its 'lawyers'.
Any business or transaction through the details listed above are not undertaken by any individual or firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA does not authorise and regulate any genuine solicitors called ‘Andrew Chambers', Lewis Farrell or a genuine firm of solicitors called ‘Andrew Chambers LLP’.
The SRA did previously authorise and regulate a genuine solicitor called Jude Ryan.
The genuine solicitor Jude Ryan has confirmed that they do not have any connection to the letter/correspondence or website referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means.
