Warning: Correspondence misusing the name and details of Chancery Solicitors Limited (trading as Chancery Solicitors)

A letter has been sent misusing the name and details of Chancery Solicitors Limited (trading as Chancery Solicitors) and email addresses falsely purporting to be for the genuine firm.
What is the scam?
The SRA has seen a letter of authority purporting to be from a genuine firm of solicitors misusing its name, genuine logo and website (see details below). The letter of authority was also misusing the address, telephone number, fax number and email address of the genuine firm's closed Stratford branch office.
The SRA has also been informed of an email address 'thelegalyard@gmail.com' and a telephone number '+44 7387 689376'. The email and telephone number were falsely purporting to be for the genuine firm of solicitors (see details below) and from an individual named 'MA Goni' also known as 'Osman Goni' who was falsely claiming to work at the genuine firm of solicitors (see details below).
The SRA has also been informed of another email address, 'info-chancery-solicitors@gmax.com', which has been used to contact individuals while falsely purporting to be for the genuine firm of solicitors (see details below).
Any business or transaction through the email addresses and telephone numbermentioned above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Chancery Solicitors Limited (trading as Chancery Solicitors) (SRA ID 627745). The genuine firm's head office address is 124 Whitechapel Road, 2nd Floor, London, E1 1JE. The telephone number is 02072479338 and its genuine website is www.chancery-solicitors.com.
The genuine firm had a branch office at Stratford at the genuine address of 124 Whitechapel Road, 2nd Floor, London, E1 1JE, England . The branch office genuine telephone number was 02033551182, the fax number was 02036016916 and the genuine email address was stratford@chancery-solicitors.com . The Stratford branch office closed on 30 May 2025.
The genuine firm has confirmed that the letter of authority was a genuine letter format for its Stratford branch office which is no longer used and that it does not employ anyone with the name 'MA Goni' also known as 'Osman Goni'. The firm has confirmed it has an employee with the name Md Osman Gani.
The genuine firm has confirmed that Md Osman Gani does not have any connection to the email address 'thelegalyard@gmail.com' and the firm does not have any connection to the above letter of authority, email addresses and telephone number referred to in the alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
