Warning: Website misusing the name of Lanyon Bowdler LLP

A website of 'www.lanyonbowdlerllc.com' was operating which misused the name of Lanyon Bowdler LLP.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a website has operated at the address 'www.lanyonbowdlerllc.com' which misuses the name of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The genuine firm's website is understood by the SRA to have been cloned and images of its genuine fee-earners misused on the bogus website (see below).

Any business or transaction through the website 'www.lanyonbowdlerllc.com' or through the email address 'info@LanyonBowdlerLLC.com' is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Lanyon Bowdler LLP. The address of the genuine firm's website is 'https://www.lblaw.co.uk/' and it may be contacted by email at 'info@lblaw.co.uk'.

The SRA authorises and regulates genuine trainee called Mia Williams and genuine individuals by the names of John Merry, Edward Nutting, and Jon Moriarty, who are partners at the genuine law firm.

The genuine firm has confirmed that it nor its partners do not have any connection to the scam referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
