A website of 'davidandphelpspllc.com' is operating and falsely claiming to be a law firm called 'David and Phelps Inc'.

What is the scam?

A website at 'davidandphelpspllc.com' is operating and falsely claiming to be a law firm called 'David and Phelps Inc'.

The website provides the telephone number '+447405103106', the email domain 'david@davidandphelpspllc.com' and misuses the address of a genuine firm of solicitors (please see below).

The SRA have also seen the 'team' page of the website and purports that a solicitor called 'David Whitacre' is a partner of the law firm.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called 'David and Phelps Inc'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a genuine individual called 'David Whitacre'.

Any business or transaction through an individual called David Whitacre, the website of 'davidandphelpspllc.com', the telephone number of '+447405103106' or the email address of 'david@davidandphelpspllc.com' is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Bishop and Sewell LLP and its office address is 59-60 Russell Square Holborn London WC1B 4HP.

The genuine firm of Bishop and Sewell LLP has confirmed it has no connection to the website or individuals referred to above.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
